Launceston 

Launceston, on the Tamar River, is Tasmania's second oldest city. Noted for its pretty parks and gardens, Launceston is also convenient for tours in the Tamar Valley and treks to Cradle Mountain. Launceston is Australia's second or third oldest city (sources vary) and is nestled between the Tamar River and scenic Cataract Gorge at the beginning of the beautiful Tamar Valley. Founded in 1805 it has managed to retain much of its heritage, architecture and streetscapes. The sightseeing tours (right) are a great introduction to Launceston the whole family can enjoy!

Launceston is approximately 200 km north of Hobart and is home to the Australian Maritime College, the northern campus of the University of Tasmania and the Australia School of Fine Furniture.
