Children's Book Week 2008

Book Week 2008 - August 16th to 22nd

Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia, and this year it is celebrating its 63rd year.

Running from Saturday August 16 to Friday August 22, the theme for this year is Fuel Your Mind. Every year Book Week, run by the Children's Book Council of Australia, aims to highlight and promote the importance and enjoyment of reading among young Australians.

Many schools, public libraries and children's organisations run activities and dress-up parades throughout the week. The winners of the 2008 CBCA Book of the Year were announced on the eve of Book Week, Friday August 15.

2008 Winners:

• Early Childhood - Book of the Year 2008 - Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley by Aaron Blabey

• Eve Pownall Book of the Year 2008 - Parsley Rabbit's Book About Books by Frances Watts, illustrated by David Legge
