Over the summer there are many events attracting tourists to Surfers beginning with Schoolies, a week long celebration for high school graduates in November. There is also an increasing amount of summer festivals during January and February such as the Big Day Out and Good Vibrations. In October some of the streets of Surfers are closed to make way for Indy 300, an annual car racing event.
Beach goers can step straight from the surf onto the mall, Cavil Avenue. With plenty of fashionable shops, late night trading, bars and nightclubs, many tourists pick accommodation in Surfers according to its proximity to Cavil.
Popular theme parks Movie World, Dreamworld and Wet and Wild are all situated on the Pacific Motorway, about a 45 minute drive from Surfers Paradise.
