  • Throughout June, July, and August 2010 - MS Readathon - The annual readathon aims to encourage reading while raising awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis. Participants will read for 30 days at any time during the three month period. To take part in the challenge visit the website (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 1 August (Sunday) 2010 - National Tree Day - Community tree-planting event organised by Planet Ark. To get involved or find your nearest site, check the website.
     
  • 6 August (Friday) 2010 - Jeans for Genes Day - Wear your jeans and make a donation to the national children's charity Jeans for Genes. The annual event raises funds for children with genetic disorders (see No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 13 August (Friday) 2010 - Friday the 13th - Having a Friday the 13th party? For costumes and ideas see Themes4Parties: Spooky.
     
  • 14 to 22 August 2010 - National Science Week - Various events around Australia. Visit the website to register or find an event (for local science groups and links see BCL Science).
     
  • 16 August (Monday) 2010 - Cupcake Day for the RSPCA - Bake some cupcakes and host a party to raise money for the RSPCA. Visit the website for more details or to register (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 21 August (Saturday) 2010 - Gold Coast Writers' Association Monthly Meeting - The Gold Coast Writers’ Association meets on the third Saturday of every month at Fradgley Hall, Burleigh Heads Library, Park Ave, Burleigh Heads. Time is 1.30pm for 2pm. Guest speakers; book launches; authors’ readings, plus afternoon tea. $4 members; $7 non-members.
     
  • 21 to 27 August 2010 - CBCA Children's Book Week - Celebrating Australian books, authors and illustrators. The theme for 2010 is "across the story bridge " (see our BCL page on Book Week).
     
  • 27 August (Friday) 2010 - Daffodil Day - Support the Cancer Council Australia by buying a bunch of daffodils or Daffodil Day merchandise, volunteering at a merchandise stall, selling merchandise at your workplace or school, or making a cash donation. All funds raised support cancer research, prevention programs and support services for cancer patients and their families (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).
     
  • 27, 28 & 29 August 2010 - Gold Coast Show held at the 47 hectare Parklands Showgrounds, cnr Smith Street and Parklands Drive Southport. The Gold Coast Show is about people, lifestyle, art, education, sports, hobbies, interests and innovation
     
  • 27 August 2010 - City of Gold Coast Show Holiday
     
  • To be confirmed 2010 - National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week
     
  • To be confirmed 2010 - The Drumley Walk 2010 - An annual 3 day walk through the lands of the Yugambeh people. Along the way traditional land owners share stories about the history of the indigenous peoples, legends and native foods. The Yugambeh Corroboree is a celebration of food, language, song and art from the Yugambeh language region of the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim.
     
  • To be confirmed 2010 - Tweed Valley Banana Festival - The festival includes a fashion parade, a street parade, woodcraft displays, an art exhibition and more (see Murwillumbah).

  • To be confirmed 2010 - Hearing Awareness Week - Annual, national event which raises community awareness about hearing loss and ways to protect hearing.
