Events in May 2010 on the Gold Coast 

• 16 March to 6 July 2010 - Public Speaking Course - A 10 week public speaking course designed to help conquer nerves and achieve goals by speaking confidently. The cost is free for the first 2 lessons and then participants are asked to join Forum Communicators for $45, and then it's $4 per meeting. The course notes are provided each lesson for free. The course will be held at Logan Uniting Church, Yurana meeting room, 129 Dennis Rd, Springwood on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday night each month. • 3 May (Monday) 2010 - Labour Day - Public Holiday in QLD.
   
• 7 May (Friday)  2010 - National Walk Safely to School Day - Aims to promote road safety, health, public transport and the environment.
   
• 7 May (Friday) 2010 - Starlight Day - A national fundraiser for the Starlight Children's Foundation Australia, a children's charity that brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children.
   
• 9 May (Sunday) 2010 - Mother's Day - see Mothers Day gift ideas
   
• 9 May (Sunday) 2010 - The Mother's Day Classic - Make a real difference to the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer by simply walking, running or sponsoring a participant, to help raise vital funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
   
• 9 May (Sunday) 2010 - Trees for Mum - Free national event offers motherless children a way to remember their mum, and celebrate the beauty of life, by planting a tree in her honour. Go to the website for more information.
   
• 14 May (Friday) 2010 - Loud Shirt Day - Wear a loud shirt and raise funds for deaf children around Australia.
   
• 14 May (Friday) 2010 - 2010 Variety Mike O'Brien Memorial Golf Day - The annual event is hosted by Variety Queensland to help improve the lives of disadvantaged and disabled children. The Memorial Golf Day includes 18 holes of golf, a BBQ lunch and post golf function featuring presentations, prizes, auction items, a prize for the best dressed, and raffles. • 15 March (Saturday) 2010 - Gold Coast Writers' Association Monthly Meeting - The Gold Coast Writers’ Association meets on the third Saturday of every month at Fradgley Hall, Burleigh Heads Library, Park Ave, Burleigh Heads. Time is 1.30pm for 2pm. Guest speakers; book launches; authors’ readings, plus afternoon tea. $4 members; $7 non-members.
   
• 10 to 16 May 2010 - National Volunteer Week - An opportunity to highlight the role of volunteers in our communities and to say thank you to the more than 5 million Australians who volunteer (see volunteer groups on the Gold Coast).
   
• 16 May (Sunday) 2010 - RSPCA Million Paws Walk - Register online to take part in the walk in order to raise funds for the RSPCA (see also No School Today: Fundraising Activities).

• 27 May (Thursday) 2010 - Australia's Biggest Morning Tea - Anyone can host their own morning tea during the months of May and June. All funds raised help The Cancer Council fund research, prevention and support services for patients and families.
   
• 27 to 30 May 2010 - Blues on Broadbeach - The annual blues festival is in its 9th year (see Broadbeach).
   
• 29 May (Saturday) 2010 - 65 Roses Day - The annual national awareness day for Cystic Fibrosis. Funds raised will go towards research projects and support services for children and young adults living with CF.
   
• To be confirmed 2010 - Starlight Day - The Starlight Foundation will be selling merchandise nationally to support seriously ill or hospitalised children.

• To be confirmed 2010 - Pink Bun - A national fundraiser with 100% of the profits being donated to the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
   
• To be confirmed 2010 - Gold Coast Fashion Week - Events in various venues on the Gold Coast.
   
• To be confirmed 2010 - Chalk the Walk - Artists compete against each other for the best pavement art creation. Audience members are invited to watch and vote.
   
• To be confirmed 2010 - The National Careers and Employment Expo - The Expo provides the opportunity for students, graduates, skilled and mature age workers, and those looking for a change, to meet face to face with Australia's leading organisations, government bodies, educational and training providers.
   
• To be confirmed 2010 - National Simultaneous Storytime - An annual event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association. At 11.00am children in libraries around Australia will read the same story.
