Put your local town or region on the map
Tell the world about your home town. Provide a glimpse into everyday
life, an insider's view of your local area, its attractions, history,
climate, peculiarities.
If we publish your 150 to 200 word description on our new regional pages
(listed below), we'll send you a BCL mug!
What should you write about?
Imagine you're describing your town to a friend who is considering
moving there. The local attractions are important, but so are the
aspects of everyday life. You could include some of these things...
- Where is it in relation to capital and other major cities or
geographical features? Is it on a major road or river? Is it flat,
hilly, by the sea, in the bush?
- What's the climate like? What grows there?
- Where's the CBD? Where are the main retail centres? What
kinds of shops are there? Big shopping centre or traditional shopping
strip?
- What kind of housing is there? What is it like to live there? Is it
well served by public transport?
- What brings people to your area?
- Are there any major annual events?
- What makes it different to everywhere else?
Descriptions should be between 150 and 200 words. They
can be serious or funny but should not sound like a real estate agent or
tour guide. We reserve the right to edit any entries that we publish.
