• 1 January  2009 - New Years Day - Public Holiday. (see AU school and public holiday dates)
   
• 29 December to 1 January 2009 - Falls Festival at Lorne (Lorne accommodation here)
   
• 10 & 11 January 2009 - Peninsula AquaFest - Gathering of marine-based organisations, activities, and community groups. Free entry. Martha Cove at Safety Beach, Mornington Peninsula.
   
• 11 January (Sunday)  2009 - The Red Hill Country Music Festival is held at the Red Hill Showgrounds on the Mornington Peninsula. The festival has live bands, line dancing, a Peninsula Youth Talent Quest plus lots of other activities for the country music fans. (Mornington Peninsula accommodation here).
   
• 18 January to 8 February 2009 - 21st Midsumma Festival - Melbourne’s premier gay and lesbian arts and cultural festival. This annual festival celebrates the pride and diversity of Victoria's lesbian, gay and allied communities.
   
  
• 19 January to 1 February 2009 - Australia Open Tennis at Melbourne Park.

  • 26 January (Monday) 2009 - Maldon Australia Day Celebrations - The theme will be - 'Our children are our future'. The day will include a concert featuring local artists. The Maldon Gardens. 
    
    
• 14 November 2008 to 26 January 2009 - The Circus Sunrise Spectacular - Combining traditional circus skills with aerial acts, hand balancing, juggling, wild west cowboys, trapeze and clowns! Water Front City.
   
• 28 January (Wednesday) 2009 - School Term 1 begins in Victorian schools (see AU school holiday dates)  
        
• To be Confirmed  2009 - The Smart Cup Australian Invitational A world-first event combining a PGA endorsed professional golf tournament and a professional skateboarding expression session on the biggest skating half-pipe in the southern hemisphere. The event will also feature a boat show and a hot rod and custom car exhibition.
