  • 2 October (Friday) 2009 - National Walk to Work Day - Walk all or part of the way to work in order to achieve better health and cleaner air. Sign up today to become a Walking Class Hero or Corporate Ambassador - register at The Pedestrian Council
     
  • 2 October (Friday) 2009 - Jeans for Genes Day - Wear your jeans and make a donation to the national children's charity Jeans for Genes. The annual event raises funds for children with genetic disorders. (See No School Today: Fundraising Activities.)
     
  • 27 September to 3 October 2009 - Melbourne International Festival of Brass - Aims to recognise and celebrate the contribution of brass playing in the Australian community.
     
  • 3 October (Saturday) 2009 - Great Melbourne Pursuit - The fourth annual pursuit is a fundraiser for the Royal Children's Hospital. Teams of two will race against the clock around Melbourne and the inner suburbs visiting landmarks and locations while completing a variety of activities. Entry is $140 per team.
     
  • 3 October (Saturday) 2009 - Parklife - Note: 18+. 12.00pm to 10.00pm at Birrarung Marr.
     
  • 3 to 5 October 2009 - Gardening Australia Expo - Featuring advice, demonstrations, kids entertainment, food, and lifestyle products. 9.30am to 4.30pm at the Caulfield Racecourse, Caulfield.
     
  • 3 to 11 October 2009 - Refugee Camp in Your City - A recreation of a refugee camp and its facilities with free, guided tours led by MSF Australian experienced field workers who have witnessed life in a refugee camp. The event aims to create a better understanding of the vulnerability of life for displaced people and refugees who have fled their homes.

  • 25 September to 4 October 2009 - Melbourne Stencil Festival - An annual event including workshops, exhibitions, artist talks and more in an effort to bring art to the general public.
     
  • 25 September to 4 October 2009 - Mildura Country Music Festival - The 22nd annual festival will feature independent country music artists performing on the banks of the Murray River. (See accommodation in Mildura.)

  • 17 & 18 October 2009 - Armageddon Multimedia Expo - Multimedia and pop culture expo for fans of TV, movies, comics, and wrestling, featuring international celebrity guests, talks, autograph and photo opportunities, and more.
     
  • 23 October (Friday) 2009 - ATOM Awards - Aim to recognise excellence in film, television, animation, multimedia and interactive games and are open to students, production companies, independent filmmakers, educational bodies and educational producers.
