  • 2 August (Sunday) 2009 - National Tree Day - Community tree planting event organised by Planet Ark. To get involved or find your nearest site, check the website.
     
  • 2 August (Sunday) 2009 - Viridian Running Festival - Includes a half marathon, a 10km run and a 5km run or walk.
     
  • 2 to 9 August 2009 - National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week
     
  • 12 August (Wednesday) 2009 - Time Warp - The Rocky Horror Musical - Note: This event is 18+ only. Tickets are $39 each. Performing at The Lake, Kawana Community Centre. (For costumes see Themes4Parties: Rocky Horror Picture Show.)
     
  • 14 to 16 August 2009 - The Yeppoon Village Festival of Arts & Music
     
  • 15 to 23 August 2009 - Seniors Week - Recognises the contribution seniors make to the community.
     
    • 21 & 22 August 2009 - Healthy Ageing & Lifestyle Expo 2009 - Hosted by Reflections Respite Centre. The expo aims to increase community awareness and knowledge of integrative healthcare and lifestyle options. It will also highlight options for fitness activities, social and sporting programs, wellness products, finance, real estate, wills and more. Free admission. Lake Kawana Community Centre.

  • 19 to 23 August 2009 - Sunshine Coast Theatre Festival - Theatre groups from South-East Queensland will compete in the festival which will be held in the Buderim War Memorial Hall, Cnr of Main and Gloucester Rds, Buderim. All tickets will be sold on the door.
     
  • 21 to 23 August 2009 - World Vision 40 Hour Famine - (See also No School Today: Fundraising Activities.)
     
  • 22 August (Saturday) 2009 - The Mary Valley Show Rodeo and Woodchop - Entry is $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 5 to 14 years. 8.00am at Imbil Showgrounds, Edward St, Imbil.

  • 22 to 28 August 2009 - CBCA Children's Book Week - Celebrating Australian books, authors and illustrators. The theme for 2009 is Book Safari. (See our BCL page on Book Week.)
     
  • 22 to 30 August 2009 - Festuri - The 10th annual multicultural festival includes international food stalls, community information stalls, cultural performances, an art exhibition, art and craft, dancing, drumming and more. The festival will be held in various venues around the Sunshine Coast and culminates in an event at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
     
  • 23 to 29 August 2009 - Hearing Awareness Week - Annual, national event which raises community awareness about hearing loss and ways to protect hearing.
     
  • 25 to 30 August 2009 - Country Music Muster - Held at Amamoor via Gympie.
     
  • 28 August (Friday) 2009 - Daffodil Day - Support the Cancer Council Australia by buying a bunch of daffodils or Daffodil Day merchandise, volunteering at a merchandise stall, selling merchandise at your workplace or school, or making a cash donation. All funds raised support cancer research, prevention programs and support services for cancer patients and their families. (See also No School Today: Fundraising Activities.)
     
  • 29 August to 13 September 2009 - Festival of the Walks - Organised tours will be available for rainforest and mountain walks in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. There will also be food and entertainment in the town centres of Maleny and Montville. (See Maleny.)
     
  • 30 August to 5 September 2009 - Legacy Week - The funds raised from this year’s Badge Appeal will help Legacy continue to assist 120,000 widows and 1,900 children and people with disabilities Australia-wide.
     
  • To be confirmed 2009 - Hervey Bay Whale Festival - A festival to celebrate the return of the annual migration and extended stay of the humpback whale to the calm waters of Hervey Bay. See Hervey Bay accommodation.
