Glebe is an inner-city suburb, 3km to the west of the Sydney CBD. The
University of Sydney's Camperdown Campus brings many students to the area.
The main thoroughfare is Glebe Point Rd.
Walk down Glebe Point Road for places to eat and shop or to visit iconic
independent bookshop Glee Books. Glebe's cafes and restaurants range
from affordable cafes to fine dining. Housing in Glebe is largely terraces,
with a few apartment blocks on some streets. Broadway Shopping Centre is at
the southern end of the suburb, on the border with Ultimo, on Parramatta
Road. It has banks, department stores, grocery shopping, and a cinema.
The
Glebe Markets are held on
Saturdays in the grounds of Glebe Public School on Glebe Point Road. Glebe
is serviced by the light rail service (stops at Glebe and Jubilee Park),
plus buses that run along Glebe Point Road. It is also possible to walk into
the CBD through Ultimo.
There is harness racing at Harold Park Paceway. Along Arcadia St is the Sze
Yup, a Chinese Temple.
