Shout! The Legend of the Wild One
KOORLINY Arts Centre will stage iconic Australian musical Shout: The Legend of the Wild One in February.
Shout! is the dazzling, funny and moving story of the legendary Australian entertainer Johnny O’Keefe, from his humble origins to international stardom.
The production includes many of Johnny O’Keefe’s best-loved hits such “The Wild One”, “Save the Last Dance For Me”, “She’s My Baby” and “Move, Baby, Move”.
Award-winning director Brad Tudor says the first production in the Koorliny Arts Centre and Kwinana Industries Council 2020 Performance Season is bound to dazzle audiences of all ages.
“Shout! The Legend of the Wild One is a Faustian tale of an Australian celebrity meeting the devil at the cross roads,” he said. “Johnny O’Keefe led the way, inspired by the belief that in Australia was musical talent as good as any in the world. Including his own. But the fight Johnny embarked on in the mid-50s didn’t have its pay-off until after his career had long since burnt out.
“It seems hard now to understand why this was such a revolutionary notion then. We now expect our great talents, in all forms of performance, to stride the stages, and the screens, of the world. But in 1955 such possibilities were, for most, mere fantasyland. Not so for Johnny O’Keefe.
“Shout! The Legend of the Wild One will be a dazzling visual treat, with stunning and inventive choreography from Allen Blachford and musical numbers that pack a punch courtesy of Shanice Tudor’s skilled musical direction.”
“It may be nostalgic to some, but having Shout! performed by a new generation of Aussies continues the celebration of a great era of beginnings.”
Shout: The Legend of the Wild One will show on February 21, 22, 28, and 29 and March 6 and 7 at 7.30pm, with matinees at 2pm on February 29 and March 7.
Tickets are now on sale and cost $25 standard, $23 concession and $20 children. For more information visit www.koorliny.com.au or call the box office on 9467 7118.
