Goolwa, on the Fleurieu Peninsula, is a rapidly growing tourist destination on the shores of the Murray River. it is around 12 km from the mouth of the river. Once a thriving river port with paddlesteamers and fishing boats, Goolwa has a strong history of shipbuilding, trade and fishing.
Goolwa is the gateway to the Coorong National Park. The South Australian Wooden Boat and Music Festival held biennially at Goolwa.
