Bankstown, named after botanist Joseph Banks, who travelled with Captain James Cook in 1770,  is approximately 20 km south-west of Sydney CBD. Bankstown Railway Station is on the Bankstown line of the CityRail network.

Bankstown parks and reserves include McLeod Reserve, Paul Keating Park and Bankstown City Gardens.
