May 2026 in Perth and WA

Sorry Day is held on the 26 May each year.

Mother’s Day is on the second Sunday in May.

22 May - International Day for Biological Diversity 2026: “Acting locally for global impact”

“Acting locally for global impact” is the theme of the 2026 edition of the International Day for Biological Diversity (hashtag#IDB2026).

This year’s global campaign will highlight how actions taken in communities around the world contribute to the implementation of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (hashtag#KMGBF) and to the collective effort to halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

From indigenous peoples and local communities, cities and local authorities, to youth, women, businesses and civil society, biodiversity action is strongest when it is driven by a whole-of-society approach. Local initiatives and partnerships play a vital role in turning global commitments into meaningful change on the ground.

30 March to 25 May, 2026 - ACF Crowd Sourced Investigations - Deforestation

ACF Investigates is a citizen science project that brings together a community of nature-loving digital sleuths who help uncover deforestation by classifying satellite imagery and gathering data on their phone or desktop.

Australia is a world leader in nature destruction and every day iconic Australian animals, like the koala, are pushed closer to the brink of extinction. We’re also a big country which unfortunately makes it easy for bulldozers to destroy the forests and bushland we love unseen and undocumented.

That’s where ACF Crowd Sourced Investigations comes in!

By taking some time out of your day - whether on your daily commute or during your lunch break - to help us analyse satellite imagery for signs of land clearing, you’re joining a community of people who want to uncover this destruction and stand up for nature!

The digital tool that investigators will be using to analyse satellite imagery and help us uncover potential deforestation goes live on Monday 30 March till Monday 25 May.
